The Monday morning rehab went digital last week as a guest on the Fantasy Football Goat’s Fantasy Football News and Advice Show. Yes, that is a mouthful, but check out the show for some great advice and commentary.
I plan on being a part of the Goat’s podcast again this week, so I will post the link to that sometime next week.
As far as the MMR this week, there continues to be a lot of news on the injury front with minicamps going off across the country. Hit the jump for all the news.
Rashard Mendenhall [RB, Steelers]
From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
Rashard Mendenhall left Pittsburgh after the Steelers’ mini-camp practices concluded Sunday with a thick playbook and something else he had to lug around: a balky hamstring.
Mendenhall, the team’s first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, strained his hamstring last Friday and didn’t take part in Saturday’s and Sunday’s practices.
The running back’s injury didn’t surprise Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who said it’s becoming more common for top draft picks to report to mini-camp in less-than-top playing shape through no fault of their own.
Not a great start for Pittsburgh’s first-round pick. But I suspect this injury will not keep him down long and he should be good to go for training camp.
Mendenhall appears to be the Willie Parker’s heir apparent, but should see plenty of action this season. Sadly for fantasy owners, more and more teams are going toward RBBC.
Deuce McAllister [RB, Saints]
From the Times-Picayune:
McAllister, who is coming back from surgeries on his knees last September, said he feels good about his recovery timetable. He has been running and doing some cutting and planting for about three weeks, and he was able to run full-speed pass routes with teammates for the first time Monday. He expects to participate in a limited capacity when the team begins its organized team activities this month.
Still no setbacks from the McAllister camp.
But the Saints did bring free agent runningback Shaun Alexander in for a visit, which could signify some concern from the coaching staff regarding McAllister’s 2008 outlook.
Jason Campbell [QB, Redskins]
Clinton Portis [RB, Redskins]
Antwaan Randle-El [WR, Redskins]
From The Washington Times:
Quarterback Jason Campbell and running back Clinton Portis joined receiver Antwaan Randle El on the sidelines by the end of yesterday’s practice. Campbell strained his left hamstring during the session. Portis sat out with a strained hip flexor, and Randle El had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday.
These are minor injuries for three of the Redskins’ offensive stars and not atypical for this time of year.
Campbell apparently injured the hamstring taking snaps from center. Portis may have been injured during a footrace with Redskins’ saftey LaRon Landry. Randle El’s injury and procedure are a little more serious than the other two, but it was a minor procedure and he should be good to go by training camp.
